We are in process of obtaining a design and technology patent of a very special aspheric IOL, which is almost monofocal in outlook, but polyfocal progressive to look through. It is a novel design, novel micro-gradient-refractive material.

1. Functionally it is a varifocal lens, a real sense multifocal, yet it looks almost like a monofocal. 2. It has no rings, typical of diffractive multifocals, nor has any limitations and optical complications of refractive multifocals. 3. Almost completely free from all positive dysphotopsias such as glare and halos, loss of contrast or waxy vision, bright flashes or streaks of light. 4. By its special design and shape, it is also completely free from any negative dysphotopsias.

These lenses are to be considered as “a premium monofocal which works like a progressive multifocal”.

And after that, there will be nothing like monofocals, multifocals(which essentially are only bifocals, ‘multifocal’ is actually a misnomer)or trifocals. There will be only this “Autofocus” polyfocalprogressive IOL, one choice only for all patients.
